Synapse on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Well….kinda.

Jimmy Kimmel
Thanks to a YouTube video, one of Synapse’s own, Phillip Slawinski (pictured below right), received a request from “Science Bob” Pflugfelder to bring his Tesla gun to California for a taping of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Synapse's Phillip Slawinski (Jimmy Kimmel Live)Someone from the show had seen Phillip’s YouTube video and wanted to feature the Tesla gun on the show.

We were also very excited to see them use an Amerex fire extinguisher during this segment! Synapse and Amerex – two leaders in their industry! (See the Amerex extinguisher at 2:35; the Tesla experiment begins around 6:30 with Phillip making an appearance around 6:50!)

AB&I Holds Fifth Annual Wellness Fair and Offers Free Flu Shots to Team Members

AB&I Wellness Fair

AB&I held their Fifth Annual Wellness Fair for team members on September 25. The goal of this year’s Wellness Fair was to raise awareness through education the importance of keeping fit and eating healthy as well as the critical importance of preventative care.

To accomplish this, AB&I partnered with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Alabama to offer onsite biometric screening. Team members took advantage of the opportunity to participate in the voluntary confidential biometric screening that was provided to them at no cost on-site. The screenings included measurements of blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose. Team members were furnished the results right away so they could begin making any necessary changes to improve their results.

AB&I’s insurance broker, Filice, provided a healthy lunch, massages, and a fun way to find out your brain age through a card game. AB&I’s Mickie Nguyen finished the game in 28 seconds making her the youngest team member in “brain age” under 20 years old.

Almost everything is better from scratch – and making your own foods with fresh ingredients is a much healthier alternative than consuming pre-packaged, pre-cooked foods. So instead of opening a jar of sauce, try this easy recipe for spaghetti with meat sauce and extra vegetables. Serve with steamed broccoli or a green salad, garlic bread, and roasted pears for dessert. The recipe makes enough for 8 servings. If you’re serving only four for dinner, cook 8 ounces of spaghetti and freeze the leftover sauce.

Ingredients (makes 8 servings):

  • 1 pound whole-wheat spaghetti
  • 2 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 pound lean (90% or leaner) ground beef
  • 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain.
  2. Meanwhile, heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and celery and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is beginning to brown, 5-8 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic and Italian seasoning; cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add beef and cook, stirring and breaking up with a spoon, until no longer pink, 3-5 minutes. Increase heat to high. Stir in tomatoes and cook until thickened, 4-6 minutes. Stir in parsley and salt.
  4. Serve the sauce over the pasta, sprinkled with cheese.

Tyler Union Team Raises $5,000 for St. Jude Hospital

Tyler Union St. Jude's - Jose Morales

Jose Morales

Over the past three months, the Tyler Union team has been raising money for St. Jude Hospital. They began their fundraising efforts with high hopes that they would be able to raise enough money so they could donate $5,000. In July, they held a BBQ plate sale which raised $1,300 and throughout August and into September, tickets were raffled off for prize drawing for a $100 Walmart Gift Card.

The drawing was held on September 22 and Randall Gorden (Disa Department) did the honors of drawing out the winning ticket belonging to Jose Morales (pictured). Jose works on the IMF No Bake molding line at Tyler Union.

Team members raised $2,500 and Tyler Union matched that amount dollar for dollar to help them achieve their desired donation amount of $5,000.00 for St. Jude Hospital!

Congratulations to the Tyler Union team that worked so hard to raise this money for St. Jude Hospital and to Jose Morales for winning the prize drawing!

The training curriculum included:

  • Management Zone

  • Effective Communication
  • Clarity in Communication
  • Communication Styles
  • Active Listening Techniques
  • Steps in Effective Management Communication
  • Circle of Walls
  • High Performance Teams
  • SMART Goals
  • The Planning and Metrics Decision Making Grid

The Anaco team would like to thank trainers Zeydi Gutierrez from AB&I Foundry and Aimee Kenney from Anaco. Great job!
