Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor and Emergency Management Administrator Visit Solberg Company

Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Administrator Brian Satula (Wisconsin Emergency Management) stopped by for a tour of our Solberg facility in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Monday, June 29. Solberg is the firefighting foam division of Amerex Corporation.
Lt. Governor Kleefisch thanked team members for their dedication and support to public safety in Wisconsin and discussed the establishment of a public/private partnership on firefighting foam between Solberg and the Wisconsin Emergency Management. Under the cooperative agreement, the state will have access to a supply of firefighting foam in emergency situations such as a crude oil fire or other large scale industrial fire incidents.
“This is a great partnership between the Solberg Company and the State of Wisconsin,” said Wisconsin Emergency Management Administrator Brian Satula. “Having foam ready to be deployed is important as we have increased rail transportation of crude oil in the state.”
Solberg Achieves Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada (ULC) Listing Certification
We are proud to announce that the Solberg Company has achieved Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada (ULC) Listing Certification on the company’s RE-HEALING fluorine-free and ARCTIC AFFF / AR-AFFF (ATC) foam concentrate product lines.
According to Solberg’s Vice President of Global Product Development Mitch Hubert, “RE-HEALING and ARCTIC concentrates are very effective firefighting foams for flame knockdown, fire control, extinguishment, and burn-back resistance. Control, extinguishing time, and burn-back resistance is paramount to the safety of firefighters everywhere. RE-HEALING and ARCTIC foam concentrates have shown excellent performance in each of these categories.”

Presidential Award Bestowed on Solberg: RE-HEALING™ Foam Named Winner of EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award
Solberg, the firefighting foam products division of Amerex Corporation was named a winner of the 2014 EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award Program.
Awards were presented in five categories: Academic, Small Business, Greener Synthetic Pathways, Greener Reaction Conditions and Designing Greener Chemicals. Solberg was honored with the category award for Designing Greener Chemicals for its development and commercialization of RE-HEALING™ Foam.
RE-HEALING foam concentrates from SOLBERG are an innovative environmentally sustainable fluorosurfactant and fluoropolymer-free firefighting foam used to effectively extinguish Class B fuels with no environmental concerns for persistence, bioaccumulation or toxic breakdown.
The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards promote the environmental and economic benefits of developing and using novel green chemistry. These prestigious annual awards recognize chemical technologies that incorporate the principles of green chemistry into chemical design, manufacture, and use.
EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention sponsors the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards in partnership with the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute® and other members of the chemical community including industry, trade associations, academic institutions, and other government agencies.

SOLBERG® RE-HEALING™ Fluorine-Free Foam Achieves FM Approval Certification
RE-HEALING RF3, 3% foam concentrate being applied to a large simulated storage tank fire

Solberg announced today the company has achieved FM Approval on the company’s RE-HEALING™ RF3, 3% and ARCTIC™ 3×3% ATC™ firefighting foam concentrates.
RE-HEALING Foam concentrate is a high performance fluorine-free foam concentrate for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires. The product is also used to prevent re-ignition of a liquid spill and control hazardous vapors. The new FM Approval includes use with bladder tanks, proportioners, foam chambers, foam makers and fire sprinklers.
“Advances in foam technology have completed another revolution of the fire science world. We have passed from protein to fluorine containing foam in the 20th century to high performance non-halide containing RE-HEALING foam for the 21st century,” explained Solberg’s General Manager Steve Hansen. “All of the ingredients in RE-HEALING foam concentrates have been individually tested under the HOCNF protocol and are safe for use from the North Sea to the South Pacific. Every question that has been asked of RE-HEALING foam has been answered without a sacrifice in fire performance.”
RE-HEALING RF3, 3% foam concentrate is both UL Listed and FM Approved for use in automatic sprinkler systems at exactly the same application rates and sprinkler operating pressures as Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) concentrates. Equal system performance has been achieved with a completely fluorine-free concentrate that also happens to be high performance firefighting foam.

Solberg Headquarters in Green Bay, Wisconsin Receives LEED Certification

The Solberg Company announced today that the headquarters/manufacturing facility located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, has been awarded Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Certification.
LEED is a third party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 2000 through a consensus based process, LEED serves as a tool for buildings of all types and sizes. LEED certification offers third party validation of a project’s green features and verifies that the building is operating exactly the way it was designed to. Solberg’s certification process took eighteen months to complete.
“LEED is a direct complement to our product strategy of developing and commercializing high-performance, environmentally sustainable firefighting foam concentrates like RE-HEALING™ Foam, the first multi-certified fluorosurfactant, fluoropolymer-free firefighting foam for Class B fuel fires,” explained Solberg’s General Manager, Steve Hansen. “LEED building criteria included: sustainable sites, water efficiency, waste efficiency, energy and atmosphere, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design. In short, we live the environment in everything we do.”
The Green Bay facility totals 20,750 square feet (19282) of floor space within two buildings located on 10 acres of land. The manufacturing/warehouse/office building encompasses 16,650 square feet (15472). A separate 4,100 square foot (3822) building – 64 ft. high (20m) is a state-of-the-art fire research and test laboratory where firefighting foam products are developed and tested to industry compliance standards.

Solberg Receives THINC! Innovation Award
Company Recognized for RE-HEALING™ Foam Product Innovation
Green Bay, Wisconsin – The Solberg Company, the world’s foremost innovator of firefighting foam concentrates and systems hardware, announced the company was one of five Northeast Wisconsin regional companies and organizations named winners of the first Insight Innovation Awards at the 3rd Annual THINC! Event held May 20, 2014.
Recognized globally for its environmentally-friendly firefighting foam concentrates and foam suppression systems hardware used in industries ranging from aerospace and aviation to petrochemical and utilities, The Solberg Company caught the eye of the judges and received the Innovation Award for “Product.”
“We are honored to receive this award,” said Dave Pelton, Vice President – Global Marketing of Solberg. “We are profoundly committed to developing high performing foam products that have an environment-friendly profile to protect and safeguard life, property and the environment.”
Called RE-HEALING™ Foam, the high-performance, environmentally-friendly foam concentrate is the first significant innovation in firefighting foam since the 1960s, when synthetic-based foam concentrates replaced foams based of animal proteins for use on Class B fuel fires. RE-HEALING Foam is also used to prevent re-ignition of exposed fuels and provides vapor suppression.
“We felt it was a necessary step in the evolution of firefighting foam products that a new technology was brought forward. Something new and innovative that moved the fire protection industry in a different direction. Announcing the Winners of the 2013 EHS Awards
The winners of the 2013 EHS awards were announced in February recognizing McWane facilities in five different environmental, health and safety performance categories. The winners were:
The Most Improved Recordable Injury Rate Award – The most improved total recordable injury rate (TRIR) is determined by calculating at year end the TRIR for each facility and comparing it to the prior year. The facility with the greatest percentage of improvement from the previous year is the winner. This year’s winners were:

The Outstanding Health & Safety Performance Award is given to the facility that has the best overall health and safety performance in 11 different categories, including program compliance, incident rates, implementation of health & safety initiatives, and risk reduction efforts.

The Outstanding Environmental Performance Award is given to the facility that has the best overall environmental performance including management commitment, program implementation and compliance. The winners were:

The EHS Excellence Award is given to the facility that has the best overall performance in both environmental and health and safety company-wide. There was no clear winner for this award in 2013.
Although the Screaming Eagle (pictured) was not awarded for 2013, we anticipate all facilities will continue with excellent health, safety and environmental programs during 2014 and strive to be this year’s winner.
Every team member plays a role in helping us become safer and more environmentally conscious and we must work together to continue to improve our EHS performance.
