Opening new valve, fittings and plumbing manufacturing plant in Abu Dhabi
Birmingham, Alabama-based McWane, Inc. is opening its newest valve, fitting and plumbing manufacturing plant in Abu Dhabi on October 26, 2015. The opening of the $28 million Abu Dhabi facility, McWane’s fifth valve manufacturing plant and 27th manufacturing facility worldwide, establishes McWane’s local position in the Middle East. McWane, Inc. is one of the largest privately owned companies in the USA, with more than 6,000 employees world-wide.
McWane’s global footprint is making a positive impact around the world, and its growing global operations are expanding its effort to bring water to the world. “We recognize a significant opportunity to manufacture and supply water, sewer and plumbing products for the Middle East and North African regions,” said Ruffner Page, CEO of McWane, Inc. “It is our next step toward bringing quality McWane products to even more of the world with our new facility in Abu Dhabi, and it’s just another milestone along McWane’s long-term commitment to water distribution infrastructure development across the region.”
McWane established its new Gulf division to serve the growing demand for McWane brands like Kennedy Valve, Tyler Pipe, and Wade Drains in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. McWane Gulf will produce water, plumbing and sewer products to international specifications, including ductile iron fittings, valves and hydrants, drainage products, and soil pipe fittings and couplings. The McWane Gulf operation will employ around 70 skilled workers once the plant is in full production.
“The McWane team is working on innovative ways to deliver our most valuable resource-water. For almost a century McWane has built durable, sustainable and efficient water infrastructure products that meet these needs,” says Page. “McWane Gulf will use the technology and experience acquired by McWane over the years to produce these products. That includes safeguarding the health and safety of every team member and protecting the environment in the communities where we operate. Everyone at McWane understands and supports the three principles of our Environmental, Health and Safety policy; compliance, protection and improvement.”
The McWane Ductile–New Jersey (MDNJ) Dalian Casting Machine project team could not have completed its mission critical goals in China without McWane Gulf team member Li Xin’s commitment and willingness to go above and beyond to assist them on their recent trip to China. Li Xin made sure that we had access to their technical counterpart person in China and translated from English to Chinese for us when needed. He also stayed with the team until late hours of the evening.
The MDNJ team was particularly impressed and grateful with Li Xin’s effort to insure that the team was kept safe by working through the weekend to avoid the typhoon that hit Shanghai, China.
Li Xin has the daily challenge of managing vendors and the expectations of customers, especially in China. To date, they have achieved significant results from our China operations including coordinating the inspection and shipping of three casting machines, one pole finishing line, and testing machines for McWane Services Private Ltd. and McWane Gulf.
The MDNJ team unanimously voted to present the McWane Ductile Passion for Excellence award to Li Xin with a heartfelt thank you for his assistance during their recent visit. Congratulations, Li Xin!
McWane Gulf participated in the 2015 Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX). They participated in the American pavilion which was inaugurated by U.S. Consul General in Dubai Robert Waller. They were very impressed that McWane is investing in the UAE.
We were the only investor amongst exhibitors in the U.S. Pavilion so when His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Finance Minister of the UAE, President of DEWA, and Patron of WETEX and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA (Dubai Water and Electricity Authority) were visiting the American pavilion, they were introduced specifically to us.
McWane Gulf General Manager/Vice President Ray Schofield explained to the VIPs about our investment in the UAE and we were well received at this Exhibition and got great exposure for our upcoming factory.
We are proud to announce that McWane Services Private Limited (MSPL) inaugurated the Valve Manufacturing Division (VMD) in Coimbatore, India. The facility has the capacity to produce 50,000 valves per year and has its own CNC machining centers, coating plant, assembly and testing machines. The work on this facility commenced in February 2014 and was operational within 6 short months.
Most of the machines are operational with plans to commission the testing machines by August 15. The products produced at this facility will service the growing Indian water and wastewater industry, and will allow us to provide ISO valves for Latin America as well as certain valve components for McWane Gulf. All of the castings will be acquired from local foundries.
Attending the inauguration on behalf of McWane were Mike Keel, Gopi Ramanathan, Chris Nichols, Ray Schofield, John McCreary, AJ Bowman, Wade Oakes (Synapse), Max Felix, and Sasi Pillai. Kudos to Kumaraswamy Shanmugham and his energetic VMD team for achieving this within such a short time frame. Thanks, also, to Arne Feyling and Ray Schofield who provided the necessary technical assistance to make this plant a reality.
With this valve plant in operation, McWane has firmly set its foot in Asia to service the Indian subcontinent.
