Amerex Holds VPP Star Celebration

Celebration was the theme of the day at Amerex yesterday.  They held a VPP flag raising and luncheon catered by Jim N Nicks BBQ for the entire Amerex team to celebrate achieving OSHA VPP Star status.  The process to become a member of VPP takes years and cannot be done without the commitment of every single team member.  McWane president Ruffner Page and OSHA Area Director Ramona Morris congratulated the team on their hard work and dedication to maintaining a safe workplace.

In his address Mayor Buddy Choat said “Amerex is the rock of this community as far as employers.  If you’ve been here your name is associated with quality and dedication.”

McWane is proud to now have seven facilities that have achieved VPP status.  Amerex joins McWane Ductile Utah, McWane Ductile Ohio, McWane Ductile New Jersey, Tyler Coupling, Clow Valve and Manchester Tank Elkhart as McWane VPP sites.

Congratulations team Amerex!

Another McWane VPP Site!

We are pleased to announce that after almost a year of waiting, McWane Ductile located in Phillipsburg, New Jersey (MDNJ) received their official notification that they have been approved for VPP Merit status.  Their extensive and comprehensive on-site evaluation by a team of five OSHA personnel and one external Special Government Employee was held June 5-9, 2017.

They have been asked to perform additional industrial hygiene monitoring for non-routine and off-shift tasks (the only issue identified by the entire OSHA team).  Once that is complete, they will be able to apply for the Star designation.

McWane Vice-President of Health & Safety Barb Wisniewski said, “It is very fitting that this announcement tops off an outstanding year for MDNJ’s health and safety success, i.e., winner of the 2017 McWane Top Quartile Club Award and the 2017 McWane EHS Excellence (Screaming Eagle) Award.  You should be extremely proud—very well deserved!”

MDNJ joins six other McWane facilities that had been recognized as VPP sites.  In fact, all three McWane Ductile locations are now VPP sites (McWane Ductile Ohio-VPP Star, McWane Ductile-Utah-VPP Star and MDNJ-VPP Merit).

Congratulations to everyone at MDNJ!

The McWane Ductile–New Jersey (MDNJ) Dalian Casting Machine project team could not have completed its mission critical goals in China without McWane Gulf team member Li Xin’s commitment and willingness to go above and beyond to assist them on their recent trip to China. Li Xin made sure that we had access to their technical counterpart person in China and translated from English to Chinese for us when needed. He also stayed with the team until late hours of the evening.

The MDNJ team was particularly impressed and grateful with Li Xin’s effort to insure that the team was kept safe by working through the weekend to avoid the typhoon that hit Shanghai, China.

Li Xin has the daily challenge of managing vendors and the expectations of customers, especially in China. To date, they have achieved significant results from our China operations including coordinating the inspection and shipping of three casting machines, one pole finishing line, and testing machines for McWane Services Private Ltd. and McWane Gulf.

The MDNJ team unanimously voted to present the McWane Ductile Passion for Excellence award to Li Xin with a heartfelt thank you for his assistance during their recent visit. Congratulations, Li Xin!

Update on McWane Ductile-New Jersey Community Advisory Panel

McWane Ductile - New Jersey Community Advisory PanelMcWane Ductile-New Jersey (MDNJ) has a Community Advisory Panel (MDCAP) that meets on a monthly basis. The purpose of the MDCAP is to establish a forum for the regular candid and constructive communication between MDNJ and the local community. The MDCAP contributes approximately $60,000 annually to community projects, organizations, and events, and MDNJ makes separate donations to the local community. For example, MDNJ recently revamped their locker room and donated the left over lockers to a local homeless shelter.

The MDCAP donates quarterly to five local food banks that help feed those in need with a meal on a daily basis. They also awarded 8 scholarships – $2,000 each – in 2015 to local high school students to help further their education. During the holidays, they participate in the Polar Express and supply tickets to families who would not be able to afford this event, and provide hats, gloves, and food to local residents at the annual tree lighting ceremony. The MDCAP also adopts families during the holidays and provides presents and gift cards so every child will have something special at Christmas.

A few of the charities the MDCAP has supported are:

  • Big Brother Big Sister
  • Safe Harbor Homeless Shelter
  • Wounded Warrior Project
  • Cancer Support Community
  • Wrangler to the Rescue
  • Relay for Life
  • Steele Hill Youth Organization
  • Boy Scouts of America

Through the CAP, MDNJ also encourages team members to get more involved in the community. Pictured is one of the many sheds MDNJ has throughout the facility where team members put cardboard and paper items for recycling to help Norwescap, a local children’s center that provides summer classes and after school programs.
