May 27, 2015, marked the day for the folks at Ferguson Water Works in Canton, Massachusetts, to receive the first ever McWane Ductile Iron Strong Award for sales in 2014 that exceeded 1 million dollars!
Ferguson-Canton will be recognized as the first McWane Ductile-New Jersey (MDNJ) distributor in the state of Massachusetts to receive this award. The group appreciated this most prestigious award and look forward to joining this club again in 2015!
McWane University conducted an Environmental Boot Camp in Franklin, Tennessee, on May 19-21. The boot camp was lead by instructors Terri Evans and Larry Bowers. This intense McWane-specific course covered a wide range of environmental topics with high emphasis on McWane’s goal of 100% Compliance, 100% of the time.
Having highly trained and competent personnel at all levels of the organization is a critical element in achieving this lofty goal, and this course was another step toward that goal. There were attendees from the Valve & Hydrant, Pipe, Plumbing, Technology and Business groups, and representatives from Manchester Tank, Amerex and Corporate.
On the night of January 16, McWane Ductile-Ohio (MDO) team member Pat McNichols was shopping at the Dollar General store in West Lafayette, Ohio. There were only a couple of other shoppers in the store at the time, but Pat noticed a peculiar man at the register. The man was only buying a couple of items.
When the worker opened the register the man quickly reached across the counter and grabbed the money out of the register. The man ran for the exit door with the money but he wasn’t quick enough for Pat. Pat quickly jumped on the man’s back and they both went crashing through the door. Pat pinned the thief to the ground and grabbed a nearby shopping cart and put it on top of the thief while the Dollar General Assistant Manager called 911. Pat held the thief there until the police arrived.
When the MDO team heard about Pat’s heroic act, they knew he was the clear cut winner of the MDO Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD) award for May. Pat received a $100.00 gift card to Walmart from for his courageous efforts.
Great job, Pat!
Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week (NSBW), which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. AB&I Foundry joined only three other companies that were recognized in a ceremony on May 4 and received an award from Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf.
“This week is a tremendous way to celebrate and support the small businesses in Oakland that serve us year-round,” said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. “Our small businesses are vital engines for growth and stability in our communities. They add to the unique flavor of Oakland’s neighborhoods and foster vitality throughout our city, generating thousands of jobs and delivering tax revenues that help pay for essential City services. I’m committed to making sure this important sector of our local economy continues to thrive.”
Congratulations, AB&I, for being a cornerstone in the community for 109 years!
Mary Ann has made lots of quilts over the years, but this one is special because she made it to help raise money for the Clow Veterans Group (CVG).
The CVG was started 5 years ago to provide assistance and support to not only Clow veterans, but also veterans and active military that live within the community. They are very excited about recently becoming the first group in Coshocton County to be Friends of the Family Readiness Group for the 1485th Army National Guard located at the airport in Coshocton. Another part of the unit is also located in Dover, Ohio. The CVG meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month at Hardee’s in Coshocton.
These are a few of the activities they have supported around the county:
- Donated money to the Blue Star Mothers of Coshocton to send Christmas packages to soldiers serving overseas
- Helped the Blue Star Mothers raise money for their veterans and military family projects
- Supported the Veterans Walk at the annual Relay for Life
- Placed American flags on the graves of veterans at Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette, Ohio
- Worked with the Veterans Commission to provide financial support for local veterans
- Supported the Honor Flight which gives local World War II and Korean veterans a free flight to Washington D.C. to visit the WWII memorial
- Donated money to help purchase a van to transport veterans to clinics in Zanesville and Columbus
- Donated money to provide flag cases for the Coshocton County Honor Guard to present to the families of deceased veterans
They have many projects that they plan to support in the months and years ahead. A big thank you to the CVG for paying it forward in the community to help veterans that have sacrificed so much!
